The ABBA is a very useful tool in restraining raptors or other large birds. Instead of clumsy nylons (which hawks tend to wiggle their way out of) or the use of PVC or tin cans (neither of which provide even short term comfort for your bird). The ABBA is designed not only for use in the initial trapping of your hawk, but also during routine maintenance such as coping, medical examinations, imping, or any other time you find it necessary to cast your hawk. It is an excellent tool for the rehabilitation community as the bird is totally subdued when the ABBA is properly used.
To use the ABBA, simply place the hawk on its back with its wing wrists/shoulders in the "pockets". Pull the pockets all the way down as far as you can. Then take either side of the ABBA and fold over the breast followed by the other. Using the elastic strap, start with the feet (note: the feet should already be contained either in our Hawk Boots or taped and laid back under the tail). Wrap from the feet toward the head making sure not to over-tighten - but it should be snug around the breast. Any struggling the hawk attempts to do will then simply move it further into the pockets unlike a nylon, which will let it through causing all kinds of problems.
We hope you like using this innovative tool. Please let us know how you like it. More importantly, let others know that you like it as well!
