The "DragonTrapper" is a unique hood, developed from my original "DragonHood" and patterned after the ancient traditional hoods of the Kazakh and Kirghiz Eagle hunters of the Mongolian Steppes.
This is a "No Frills" hood differing from the DragonHood. It has no top ornament, no tongue in the back, and is made from plain bark tanned calf or kangaroo leather. The adjustable chin strap has been replaced with an extra set of braces in the front of the hood. The hood is placed on the bird's head normally with both sets of braces open wide. The rear set is then fully closed and the front set is drawn snug as needed for a perfect fit.
The DragonTrapper comes in sets of two (male and female per species) so the falconer need only carry two hoods afield when trapping instead of 4, 5, or even up to 6 conventional and more expensive Indian or Dutch style hoods.
Also, the DragonTrapper is an excellent choice for raptor rehabilitators for handling injured hawks and eagles. The front chin braces make it completely reusable for a wide variety of raptors over a long period of time.
